Understand the purpose of taping
Elastic tape is applied to the skin as part of a treatment approach. Before an application, ask what the clinician hopes to address and how taping relates to the rest of your plan. Wearing tape alone does not establish the cause of pain.
Make room for your questions
Tell the clinician about sensitive skin, adhesive reactions or any irritation where tape might be placed. Ask how to remove it and what to do if it becomes uncomfortable. Follow the instructions given for your individual application.
Consider your usual activities
Describe the exercise, work or household movements that matter to you. Ask whether you should modify those activities while symptoms are being assessed. An application should not be taken as clearance to continue an activity that may be causing injury.
